Danny Flowers Danny Flowers may be best known for having penned the classic, "Tulsa Time" (Don
Williams, Eric Clapton), or as author of such soulful cuts as, "Before
Believing" (title cut for Emmylou Harris's Pieces Of The Sky) and "Gulf Coast
Highway" (Nanci Griffith, Emmylou Harris and Willie Nelson, Evangeline), among
others, but as a solo artist, his bluesy blend of raw emotion combined with a
heartfelt yearning will speak to your very soul. |

I had to pinch myself when I saw an ad for this CD and after a very
interesting telephone conversation with producer and label owner Daniel
Moore, I was absolutely stunned by what was said. Here was a "lost"
studio session from 1973 featuring James "Gonzo" Booker, the most
incredibly gifted pianist/organist to ever come out of New Orleans and he's
backed by an all star crew of Crescent City pals: drummer John
Boudreaux, Richard "Didimus" Washington on percussion, Alvin
"Shine" Robinson on guitar, Jessie Hill on tambourines, and David
Lastie on sax, with co-producer David Johnson on bass.

When
Don Preston plays the blues, it's the real thing. Don has played
guitar for such R&B icons as The Coasters, The
Penguins, The Jaguars, and the Olimpics. In the late 50s. Preston did further brilliant work as a sideman with Chuck Berry, Ray Sharpe, Gene Vincent, Jessie Hill, Jerry Lee Lewis, Rick Nelson, The Righteous Brothers, Ritchie Valens, and many others. Blues masters like Preston distinguish
themselves not by how many notes they can play or how fast, but by how deeply they draw from the well of the musical groundwater - where the blues begins. This album, "Sacre Blues",
is Don Preston at his best.

Kris Kristofferson
refers to him simply as "my brother Danny Timms"; Willie Nelson has
called him "one of the most talented humans I know"; Bonnie Raitt
has said that he has a river of music running through his veins. If
you've ever been around when Danny has opened one of those veins and
let the music flow out of him, then you know exactly what they're
talking about and are already a believer. If you haven't yet had the
pleasure, then you've come to the right place. Enjoy the tunes, and
thanks for listening.

Think about it...Not "another" group,
not "a" group, but THE Group...The FASTEST Group...WOW!! Ponder that...The
FASTEST. Not merely swift, nor speedy, but the Fastest. What an honor. But with
honor, add obligation, hard labor, inspiration and a lot of temerity, because
fastness is never easy. |
